Simulation & Synthetic Environments Engineer

Build the synthetic environments that autonomous systems are tested in before they are trusted with anything real. If the simulation is wrong in an interesting way, the whole test programme inherits the error — so fidelity is the product.

— The work

What the role is responsible for.

  • Develop and maintain simulation environments, sensor models, and scenario tooling.
  • Validate simulated behaviour against measured data from field and flight.
  • Build scenario generation that produces useful edge cases rather than volume.
  • Support other teams running campaigns in the environment you maintain.
  • Document model assumptions and their known limits.
— Required

What we need you to bring.

  • Degree in computer science, engineering, physics, or equivalent practical background.
  • Programming ability in C++ or Python, and interest in graphics or physics simulation.
  • Understanding of sensor physics at least at a working level.
  • Careful approach to validation — an unvalidated model is treated here as an untested claim.
  • Working English; French is useful for site life but not required.
— Preferred

Useful, not essential.

  • Experience with a simulation framework such as Gazebo, Isaac Sim, Unreal, or an in-house equivalent.
  • Exposure to high-performance or distributed computing.
  • Any prior work comparing a model against measured reality.

We read the preferred list as a description of a useful background, not a checklist. Candidates who meet the required list and none of the preferred are regularly hired.

— The team

Who you would be joining.

The Toulouse simulation team supports Autonomous Systems and Aerospace. It is a good first post for engineers who want breadth before choosing a specialism.

— Conditions

What to know before you apply.

Relocation support and language tuition are available through the People division.

All candidates undergo comprehensive vetting. Reasonable accommodation is available at any stage — say so in your first note and it will be arranged. We do not use unverified third-party recruiters, and we never ask a candidate for a fee.
